What is Therapeutic Touch? (TT)
Therapeutic touch (also known as TT)is considered to be an energy field modality and is a contemporary interpretation of several ancient healing practices. A consciously directed process during which the practitioner uses the hands as a focus for facilitating the healing process. The intervention is administrated with the intent to enable people to re-pattern their energy toward wholeness and health.
Benefits Therapeutic Touch
Therapeutic Touch can be used alone or to enhance other interventions. Elicits the relaxation response and reduces anxiety. Changes the perception of pain and facilitates the body’s natural restorative process.
Raises the hemoglobin in children, promoting healing of tissues, lowers temperature of fever, relax muscles and relieves tension, promotes sleep and alters sleep patterns, alleviates emotional anxiety and stress, calms post operative patients. Therapeutic Touch relieves side effects of chemotherapy.
What happens during a Therapeutic Touch treatment?
Working in the field of energy, touch therapy (TT) enhances the flow of blocked energy and speeds healing. Everything is energy. Energy needs to flow. When energy is blocked the opportunity of dis-ease arises. With therapeutic touch the energy field is swept with movements to remove areas that may be congested and need clearing.
Therapeutic Touch is a holistic healing method in which the hands are used to "direct human energies to help or heal someone who is ill" with a healing touch. Proponents claim that the patient's "energy field" can be detected and intentionally manipulated by the therapist with healing hands. They theorize that healing results from a transfer of "excess energy" from healer to patient. Their reports claim that TT is effective in holistic healing against scores of diseases and conditions.
For the most part, a session involves the therapist working with her hands slightly away from the body.
